New Zealand Sculpture OnShore is committed to making sculpture accessible to the wider public, and is uniquely positioned to deliver a robust educational programme to the Auckland region. Exhibiting the artwork of 100 New Zealand artists (from emerging artists to veterans) gives students, their teachers, and their families an exceptional snapshot of contemporary New Zealand visual art. The three-dimensional aspect of sculpture, particularly, is appropriate for school-age children to provide the opportunity to interact with it from many vantage points including, where appropriate, physical contact.
NZ Sculpture OnShore’s Education Programme is relevant to primary and intermediate students, and can be adapted to be germane to Year 9 and 10 students not involved in November exams as well as the Gifted and Talented, Deaf and Blind, and other specific target educational groups.
Available to class groups (weekdays) for $5 per student and to families (weekends) included in the entrance price during the exhibition, they are lead by a trained arts educator to encourage participation and engagement. Focused on student learning whilst being fun, their value includes ongoing work in the classroom or home environment.
Our educational tours will provide information on the artists, their art practices, thoughts and processes at a level aimed specifically for children. Hands on activities will be incorporated into the tours giving students the chance to engage with the works in a variety of ways. Focusing on student learning whilst being fun, their value includes ongoing work in the classroom or home environment.

The popular CS@TF is an integral component of NZ Sculpture OnShore and its Education Programme. Primary and intermediate schools are invited and encouraged to create site-specific exhibitions that are displayed in the historic underground tunnels and rooms of Fort Takapuna. The Children’s Exhibition supports NZ Sculpture OnShore and provides an occasion for children to exhibit alongside leading New Zealand artists.
This is an opportunity to showcase activities already scheduled in the school calendar or for schools to create sculptures specifically for this event.
