Karen sculpts out of native timber with an interest in reflecting the energy and essence of life forms and lines within the NZ landscape.
Following on from attaining a Bachelor of Education Degree from Auckland University, Karen gained a qualification in Graphic Design at AUT before moving to Australia and completing a Visual Arts Degree at James Cook University, in her final year achieving Top Sculpture Award 2002. After this, Karen spent 3 years teaching Art and Senior Design at Diocesan School for Girls where she became Head of the Senior Design Department. Karen then went on to pursue a full time career in art and has remained a full time artist since 2006, regularly exhibiting nationally and internationally.
In 2011 she moved to Nelson with her family. It was at this time that she and her husband Mike (a manufacturing jeweller) started up an Art Gallery called Kereru Gallery which has recently been reopened in a newly designed and built space in Mapua NZ. Here they produce and exhibit Karen's sculptures and Mike's jewellery, alongside work from a quality selection of artists from around NZ. Karen's work features in personal and public collections across Aotearoa and throughout the world. www.kererugallery.co.nz
