NZ Sculpture OnShore (Friends of Women's Refuges) is to be highly commended for organising this innovative exhibition of New Zealand sculptures.
Working towards achieving safety for women and children throughout New Zealand must be a priority in order to accord them one of the most fundamental rights, that is, living free from fear. The reality is however, that this comes at considerable financial cost, making events such as this exhibition critical to ensuring that the best possible services are available to these women and their children in their hours of need.
North Shore City Council prides itself on bringing great events to the Shore and NZ Sculpture OnShore is certainly one of these. With the new Auckland governance taking effect on 1 November 2010, we are delighted that North Shore City Council and the new Auckland Council are actively supporting this initiative and urge residents from the greater Auckland region to show their support for this event in any way possible.

The Department of Conservation is pleased to welcome NZ Sculpture OnShore to Fort Takapuna. This will be the fourth time the event has been held on the DOC-managed reserve in six years. This premier sculpture exhibition offers a unique way to show off this reserve and its historic fort as well as support the Friends of Women's Refuges in their important work protecting womena dn children from domestic violence.
Conservation has wide benefits to the community beyond the well-understood stewardship of historic and natural heritage. This event provides a peak recreational opportunity and enjoyable family entertainment at the same time as helping to contribute to the social good; all examples of what collaborative partnerships between DOC and the community can best offer.
Deep within the Victorian-era fort itself, 'Children's Sculpture @ The Fort' features the emerging talent of students from a dozen local schools and is always a highlight of the wider show and a glimpse at the work of our sculptures of the future.
This nationally-significant event has grown to become a must-do on everyone's event calendar. The Department of Conservation is proud to be able to help facilitate the exhibition.

Natural Habitats, New Zealand's leading design-and-build landscape company is proud to sponsor NZ Sculpture OnShore 2010.
The same passion that motivated the 100 or so artists in NZ Sculpture OnShore motivates us every day at Natural Habitats. We share an intense desire to enhance our physical environments - to beautify, to challenge and to provoke. Whatever the end effect, the work enriches the soul, whether that be in the most intimate space or in the largest public area. Not surprisingly, some of our best landscaping includes leading work by New Zealand sculptors - we are passionate advocates of sculpture in the landscapes we develop.
For us at Natural Habitats it is the most logical thing in the world to sponsor NZ Sculpture OnShore 2010. Thank you to all the artists and the organisers for their incredible energy, creativity and commitment, and to the public for their support.
