What inspires your art practice?
My art practice is inspired by the natural world around us. Much of my Glassworks are based on the rugged New Zealand landscape. I like to use the liquid properties of molten glass to tell stories of the different regions that inspire me.
What materials do you work in?
I work in hand-blown glass with cold work finishings. This series is from my sculpture garden series and includes use of metal and other materials.
Describe your artwork for NZ Sculpture OnShore 2021
The concept for Giant Flowers was to showcase the ability of glass to be used
in large outdoor sculptures. Traditionally glass is used for vessel making, but in
Giant Flowers, I wanted to express the abundance of fun and colour in our gardens on a larger-than-life scale.
Where are the public most likely to see your artworks outside of NZSOS?
Lava Glass Studio and Gallery, Taupo is where you can view my largest collection and you can also view me at work blowing glass.
